Starting Points |
The Festival workshops bring together like-minded artists with a common theme for an unforgettable experience of the rhythm that travels beyond cultural and language barriers.
Bob and Diana Suckiel call Kansas City home. Also known as Boomer Bob, Bob Suckiel has put in more than thirty years as a gandy-dancer, switchman, brakeman and now "Conductor and Engineer" on the main line of the Pacific Union. His music is centered in the blues with a touch of Kansas City jazz. Diana Suckiel (aka Mama Pipes) is a do-right woman who earned her name from her soulful singing and from her card as a journeyman plumber.
Boubacar Traore was born in Kayes, in the Bambara region of Mali in 1942. He taught himself to play the guitar drawing on the kassonke that is the traditional music of the Kayes region and the American Blues he heard on the radio.
Michael Jerome Brown's knowledge of the blues is as encyclopediac as his musical skills on guitar, fiddle, dobro, banjo or mandolin. During the Blues in the Trees session we were treated to the amazing sounds of the gourd banjo.
Lester Quitzau started playing the blues in the bars of Edmonton and can take a song from a whisper to a scream that is beautiful every step of the way. Shop for the Artists at Amazon.com
